The client
This one is ours. Moonlysoft runs several legal entities, invoices in two currencies and banks with more than one institution — exactly the problem Finlayer solves. Finlayer is positioned as the smart financial layer for growing Romanian SMEs: not a neobank asking you to switch, not an ERP too heavy for a ten-person company, but a layer on top of the banks and tools a business already has.
The challenge
The typical Romanian SME holds two to five bank accounts, each with its own internet banking. Invoices arrive as PDFs, get typed into an invoicing tool and uploaded to the tax authority’s e-Factura portal. Paying a supplier means opening the right bank, copying an IBAN and approving on a phone. Knowing how much cash the company has means logging into every bank and adding it up.
Touching bank data and initiating payments is regulated territory, and it all had to ship fast enough to validate the idea before the budget ran out.
What we did
We validated the idea against our own pain and a target customer profile, then set the shape in a business plan: a layer, not a bank. Five pain points mapped to five modules, and open banking through a licensed partner rather than our own licence, so the six months could go into the product instead of the paperwork.
A five-person team built and shipped it. Accounts brings every Romanian bank into one dashboard. Bill pay reads invoices, proformas and receipts with AI, extracts the supplier, amount, due date and IBAN, and pays from any connected account. Invoicing issues documents in seconds and keeps them in sync with the tax authority. Payment links let customers pay straight into the business’s own bank account, cutting out third-party processors. Insights gives a live profit and loss and a 90-day forecast. Setup takes five minutes, with migration from any invoicing tool.
The open-banking agreements were signed at the end of September 2025, the platform was live with a free trial by mid-October, and the public launch followed in November.
Results
- Idea to launched, paying product in about six months with a five-person team.
- Any Romanian bank account connected into one dashboard, with payments initiated from the platform.
- The invoice-to-payment loop closed in one product: AI import, e-Factura issuing and receiving, payment links that settle in the user’s own bank.
- Finlayer never holds bank credentials and cannot move money on its own — only the user can.
- Built to expand across Eastern Europe once validated in Romania.
“Backed by Salt Edge’s open banking rails, Finlayer removes this complexity by turning financial management into a connected, automated experience. Romanian businesses can now view all their finances, send invoices, and receive payments — all from a single dashboard.”
